Community Health Experience (CHE)

For second-year NYCOM medical students

Programming includes:

  • Provides community-based, non-clinical internships for future doctors who have expressed interest in working in medically underserved communities
  • Enhances medical education experience with curriculum and hands-on experience in community health and health disparities
  • Weekly didactic curriculum, including guest speakers covering Health Policy, Health Literacy, Immigrant Health, and Health Disparities

This program is a partnership between the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and the NY Metropolitan Regional AHEC office and the three AHECs serving New York City (Manhattan-Staten Island AHEC, Brooklyn/Queens/Long Island AHEC, and Bronx/Westchester AHEC). The Metro AHECs are looking to expand the Community Health Experience Program to other health professions schools and community organizations. **To provide a safe educational environment for all of our high school, college and post bacc pipeline programs, MSI AHEC will follow current CDC and Institutional guidelines for the Summer 2022 sessions; requiring that all students participating in all programs follow social distancing, wear a mask, and proof of vaccination will be required. These rules will be amended as new guidelines or regulations become effective.
