Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP)

SHIP offers high school and college students the unique opportunity to explore careers in the healthcare field. Through hands-on experiences and interactive workshops, students gain valuable exposure to various healthcare settings, professionals, and students, while developing skills in leadership, teamwork, and cultural competence.

Early Bird Application Deadline: January 7, 2026

General Application Deadline: February 28, 2026

Program Dates: June 29 – August 6, 2026

Participation Criteria: 

  • Current high school juniors and seniors 
  • Current college freshmen and sophomores in good standing 
  • Students must be at least 16 years old by the program start date
  • Student must be interested in a career in the health field
  • Student must provide two recommendations – one from a teacher or faculty member

Program Highlights:

  • Six-week paid internship with exposure to hospitals and health care facilities

  • Learn about various health careers and community health issues
  • Weekly didactic sessions discussing a wide range of community issues, tour health professions schools, and meet practitioners in the field

Competitive Selection Process: Please be reminded that this is a competitive application process, and students will be selected based on their essay submission and interview results.

*Placement will be based on CDC and NYC Dept of Health guidelines.

Please note that students participating in MSI AHEC programs may be required to wear a mask in clinical environments and provide proof of vaccination, if requested. These rules will be amended as new guidelines or regulations become effective.
